Meet Bingqian Guo, PhD
Senior Scientist
Can you share a bit about your background and what led you to join Paterna BioSciences?
I had my PhD training in Biophysical Chemistry from Dartmouth College. And afterwards I did postdoc research at Harvard Medical school and subsequently worked at Huntsman Cancer Institute as well as WuXi AppTec as scientist. My enthusiasm is always scientific research, especially those can make a more direct impact and benefit people. Paterna BioSciences is the perfect choice where I can apply my expertise to the cutting-edge research to potentially help families with fertility issues!
What is your role at Paterna, and how does your work contribute to the mission of solving male infertility?
I serve as a senior scientist to perform experiments to study in vitro spermatogenesis. As one of the company’s founding team members and the second employee ever hired at Paterna, I also take on the role of lab manager, ensuring smooth operations and contributing to our groundbreaking research.
What aspect of working in the field of reproductive health are you most passionate about?
I really hope my work can help families struggling with fertility issues to eventually have children, and hopefully in a more efficient, painless and less expensive way.
What drives you to innovate in the area of male fertility?
The lack of effective treatment options.
Why is fertility and the treatment of infertility so important to you?
Our pioneering science can help people who are facing infertility issues to have the opportunity to be parents.
Do you have any published papers to highlight your expertise?
I do! Links are provided below:

How does collaboration within the team contribute to the success of Paterna?
The goal – in vitro spermatogenesis – really requires a wide range of expertise that every individual brings to the team. Here at Paterna, we integrate our areas of strength and communicate effectively to move the science forward.
What’s unique about the culture at Paterna that differentiates it from other places you’ve worked?
For me it is a nice combination of academia and industry – the science is very cutting edge, requires a lot of exploratory research, while the whole team shares the same goal, and everyone collaborates to achieve it.
What impact do you hope your work will have in the community?
Eventually I hope our hard work and groundbreaking science can help the couples struggling with infertility to become parents.
Where do you see the future of fertility treatments going, and how is Paterna positioning itself to lead that change?
Hopefully in the future in vitro spermatogenesis and in vitro oogenesis can provide infertile couples with more choices to have their own biological children. What we do at Paterna will help to make in vitro spermatogenesis happen!
What do you enjoy doing outside of ‘the office’?
Outside of the office, I love spending time with my young kids, going hiking and traveling.
Share a ‘fun fact’ about yourself!
I was not afraid of caterpillars and even raised silkworms when I was a kid, but somehow as an adult I got really scared of them=.=
If you were describing your job to a five-year-old, what would you say you do at work?
I’m trying to help people who have difficulties having a baby naturally to have babies!
